Thomas Oppenheimer joined Fowler Rodriguez Valdes-Fauli in January 2006, as an associate in the Miami office. He is admitted to the Florida Bar and speaks Spanish fluently, having completed the high school curriculum of Spain as accredited by the Ministry of Education of Spain.
Mr. Oppenheimer received his law degree cum laude from the Washington College of Law, American University, in Washington, D.C. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociology Honor Society.
Mr. Oppenheimer served as a legal intern at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Chief Counsel for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In that capacity, he tried deportation cases and conducted research for the Deputy Chief Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsels. Prior to that, Mr. Oppenheimer was a legal intern at the Steel Hector & Davis firm, a 230-lawyer firm in Miami. At Steel Hector he researched case law for memoranda on WTO decisions and anti-trust issues in the United States and abroad. He also prepared strategy proposals for Fortune 100 company issues associated with Central American dealer protection laws.
Prior to his work at Steel Hector, Mr. Oppenheimer served as an intern for the Committee of Foreign Relations, Congress of Argentina, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He served as a Special Assistant to Committee Chairman Representative Marcelo Stubrin and helped prepare a "sense of the Congress" resolution on Argentina's free trade talks with the United States. He also undertook research on international treaties.
